Geriatric Medicine

Geriatric medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on problems associated with aging and diseases of the elderly. It is important to have a health care team that is familiar with problems that affect this specific population. This may include cognitive & physical vulnerability, functional decline, memory issues, osteoporosis, gait and balance disorders, and bladder and bowel incontinence. The American Geriatric Society has designed specific guidelines to reduce older adults’ drug related problems. This is accomplished by limiting exposure to potentially inappropriate medications, drug-disease interactions, and medications that should warrant extra caution in the geriatric population.

We place an emphasis on proper medication management, minimizing adverse effects of medication, and believe that less medication is better than more. This provides a safe environment for the patient, ensures that they achieve their best health outcomes, and best quality of life.
